About Altius Nordic Ski Club Programs

Altius strives to be the premier Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined ski club in North America. Just like the Olympic Motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, the Altius Nordic Ski Club strives for its athletes to be Faster, Higher, Stronger.

The Altius Nordic Ski Club is the backbone of the National Training Center at Canada Olympic Park, and the only Ski Jumping year round training center in Canada. For more information go to Winsport Canada

Year Round Programs

The Ski Hoppers Program is the entry level, year-round program for young athletes ages eight and up. The program’s focus is overall fitness and fun, while learning to jump and cross country ski. Other fun, endurance and strength-building team activities are included, such as gymnastics, soccer, rollerblading, hiking, swimming, mountain biking, climbing, running, camping, and x-country and alpine ski trips. This multi-sport program highlights overall physical development, enhances healthy lifestyles and leadership abilities in each participant. It also provides the base and introduces an opportunity for Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) in the 2 Olympic Sports of Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined skiing.
Age Group: 6 – 13 years old

Prerequisite: Desire for Nordic Jumping and basic familiarity with the variety activities (see below)
Desire to learn and take part in multi-sport activities (see below).
Commitment:  Two to four hours, three times each week (Spring, Fall, & Winter). One to Six weeks summer session (your choice).
Coaching level: Level 1 – 3 NCCP (National Coaches Certification Program)

Activities    
Year Round: Nordic skiing and ski jumping (on snow and plastic), Balance, Coordination, General fitness and Flexibility, Development exercises, Sport games, and an introduction to sport-specific training.

Coached Activities    
Fall and Spring: Ski Jumping, Gymnastics at Calgary Gymnastics Centre, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Rollerblading, Hiking, Pool Swimming, Running, Training in arenas and recreational centres, Cross training, Active Games and more.


Summer: Most of the above plus: Mountain biking, Climbing wall, Mini-Triathlon (arrangement dependent), Hiking, Camping, Ultimate Frisbee, rainy day activities and more.

Winter: Ski Jumping, Cross-country skiing, Ski Trips (Cross Country and Downhill) and more.

Program Sessions
2017 Spring Session

7 weeks, three days a week

Times: Tuesdays & Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 PM, & Saturdays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (may be extended to 3 PM).
Dates: May 2 – June 24th, 2017

2017 Summer Day Camp Session   

1 – 6 weeks, full-day weekly camps

Times: Monday – Friday format, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Early drop off / late pick up option is available)
The full day sessions  include: Ski Jumping, Gymnastics at Calgary Gymnastics Centre, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Rollerblading, Hiking, Pool Swimming, Running, Training in arenas and recreational centres, Cross training, Active Games, Mountain biking,, Mini-Triathlon (arrangement dependent), Hiking, Camping, Ultimate Frisbee, rainy day activities and more. Select up to 6 weeks in July and August (refer to Weekly Summer session detailed schedule published in May or earlier). Options for registration include  by the week or the entire summer.

Jump ‘n Fly League Testing

Altius implements  Jump ‘n Fly League testing of all Hoppers athletes 4-5 times/year. There are 5 levels of testing: Level 1 – Rabbit, Level 2 – Antelope, Level 3 – Tiger, Level 4 – Seagull, Level 5 – Raven. Each level builds on the previous one to effectively develop strong skills and technique.
